- Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.
- Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins (poisons) that inflame the gums.
This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease! - Teeth polishing: Remove stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Detecting oral cancer in its early stages increases the chances of successful treatment. Dr. Sabharwal and her team conduct oral cancer screenings to catch this life-threatening disease as soon as possible. Patients are at an increased risk for oral cancer if they smoke, drink heavily, use tobacco in any form, or have a history of significant sun exposure or a previous oral cancer diagnosis.
We use the Veloscope® imaging system to detect mucosal abnormalities that aren’t visible to the naked eye. Veloscope detects signs of oral cancer and pre-malignant dysplasia using fluorescence visualization. SKS Dental is proud to offer this technologically advanced service to our patients.
